True to form, New York’s fashionistas embraced their inner punk last night and wore some beautiful pieces.

You got to love Sarah Jessica Parker’s mohawk, she turned punk into full-on glamour. Black, edgy cat eyes were all the rage, and new-comers Ashley Greene and Nina Dobrev did it best by keeping their lips neutral and jewellery minimal. But let’s be honest, there’s no doubt the award for best punk-wear goes to these four ladies below. Look at that hair!? It screams attitude. As does Cara Delevingne’s fierce look.

Of course, I’d like to pretend I’d be brave enough to wear a bad-ass punk dress, but I’d likely opt for a sweeter one, à la Michelle Williams. Even Ivanka Trump attempted punk, so surely I could do it too. Have you any favourite looks?

The sun will be shining this weekend and I have every intention of spending as much time outdoors as possible. I’m seeing my first Blue Jays game of the season with friends tonight, and I can’t wait to cheer them on beer + hot dog in hand.

Since I’ll be back in the office soon, I’m also on the hunt for some light dresses. Some might say I’m a little conservative when it comes to office wear (er, maybe conservative for the creative world) but I just can’t imagine wearing yoga pants or boobie tanks to work. I once worked at a company whose receptionist wore short shorts and sky-high heels to work, and I always thought it looked incredibly unprofessional. Call me old fashioned, but I’m a believer in dressing for the job you want, not the one you have.

LEAN IN by Sheryl Sandberg

Every year I read one or two compelling business books penned by women.  I’ve just read the first few pages of Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In, and so far I think I’ll enjoy her “feminist manifesto,” as she puts it. As the current COO of Facebook (and former Google executive,) a wife and a mother, I’m especially looking forward to Sheryl’s advice for balancing work and home life.

EVERYTHING IS PERFECT WHEN YOU’RE A LIAR by Kelly Oxford

This fellow Canadian (she’s from Edmonton) may seem like an overnight success but she’s been honing her skills and working her craft for years. If you’ve just discovered her, don’t sweat it – I too, discovered her late in the game. But Kelly is hilarious. She’s witty, realistic and she’s going somewhere. Her book Everything Is Perfect When You’re a Liar is patiently waiting for me at home, and I can’t wait to dive in.

THE ANCIENT ALIEN QUESTION by Philip Coppens

I won’t lie, this isn’t my first choice of books, but it’s my book club‘s next pick and I’ll be reading it. The bf once told me people are either ghost believers or alien believers, and I’ve always preferred aliens over ghosts so I might just enjoy Coppen’s query into the age old Acient Alien Question.

ONE // Extra Volume Shampoo

I’ve just started using the Moroccan Oil Extra Volume Shampoo and I love it. I have lot’s of hair but the strands are fine so it tends to go flat pretty quickly. I was amazed by how different my hair looked just by switching from colour-care shampoo to volumizing shampoo. Plus, this line is free of sulfates, phosphates, and parabens, which makes it great for my hair and the environment!

TWO // Extra Volume Conditioner

I was nervous to use the Moroccan Oil Extra Volume Conditioner at first, worried that I wouldn’t like its post shower smell. It’s got a bit of a musky scent to it, and I was accustomed to a more fruity-flower aroma. But I’m so glad I tried it – the post-fragrance is amazing and it instantly detangles my hair, leaving it soft and silky.

THREE // A Round Brush

I use the same wooden round brush I bought at Shopper’s Drug Mart years ago – it’s not fancy, but it works great to blow dry my hair in sections.

FOUR // The Best Smoothing Cream

My stylist Masou’d introduced me to the Australian line EVO last year and I’ve become a die-hard fan of their End Doctor Smoothing Sealant. You don’t need more then a dollop and you only apply it to your ends. It smooths out any strays and protects your hair from the heat of styling tools. I swear by it.

FIVE // Shine Spray

When you have fine hair the last thing you want to do is add anything that will leave an oily residue, which is why the Oribe Light Reflecting Spray is the perfect finishing touch. Its made of argan oil and lemongrass, which illuminates highlights and tames flyaways. And it smells sooo good!

SIX // Trusty Bobby Pins

I used to curl my hair with a curling iron but lately I’ve been using bobby pins to create soft waves instead. I divide my hair into 9 sections and twist each section around three fingers, pinning each curl to my head with a bobby pin. By the time I’ve applied my makeup and brushed my teeth (10 minutes or so) all I’ve got to do is take out the bobby pins, run my fingers through the curls and get out the door. If I want the curls to stay all day I’ll mist a little Elnett Satin hairspray by L’Oréal. Voilà, soft waves in no time and without any heat damage.
